Melissa Nelson-Thomas

Melissa J. Nelson-Thomas, 48, peacefully passed away at home with her loyal and dedicated family by her side at 11:27 am Sunday November 12, 2023. A Celebration of Life gathering will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to the family. 

Melissa was born December 14, 1974 in Champaign. A daughter of Leroy and Vickie Blanck Nelson. She married James W. Thomas on February 17, 1996 in Fisher.

She is survived by her husband and best friend of twenty-seven years James Thomas of Fisher and their four children that brought a smile to her face. Dekoda (Michelle) Nelson-Thomas of Fisher, Shevy (John) Peters of Thomasboro, Shyanne (Johnathan Rohr) Thomas of St. Joe, and Jesse Thomas at home in Fisher. Four grandchildren that she adored Draven, Anastasia, Grayson and Gracie. Her parents Leroy and Vickie Nelson of Foosland and her mother-in-law Debbie Maynard of Fisher. Also, her siblings Jeremy Dow of Fisher, Shana Lucas of Fisher, Jerimy Nelson of Bellflower, Shayne Coffey of Buckley, Brandon Coffey of Buckley, Brian Coffey of Missouri, several nieces and nephews and a host of friends.

Melissa spent her younger years attending Paxton-Buckley-Loda schools. She then moved with her parents and became a Fisher Bunnie and graduated from Fisher High School in 1993. She was a hard worker and a great waitress and always greeted you with a smile while serving you at Buzzards in Fisher. When not working she enjoyed a good book and recently started quilting. She truly dedicated her life to her family and was the happiest when she was surrounded by her grandchildren. Melissa will be deeply missed by all that knew and loved her.
