Marion Benningfield

September 19, 1949 — October 6, 2019

Marion George Benningfield, 70, of Gibson City passed away Sunday October 6, 2019 at Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis. A celebration of Life service will be held 2:00 pm Sunday October 27, 2019 at the Gibson City Bible Church with Mr. Josh Carter officiating. A private family burial will be held at a later date. George unselfishly donated his body to scientific research. Memorial tributes may be made to Hope Lodge 4215 Lindell Blvd, St. Louis, MO 63108

George was born September 19, 1949 in Marion County, Kentucky. A son of Oscar and Carrie Followell Benningfield. He married Bonnie L. Leonard on June 6, 1972 in Urbana. They were married 47 years. Bonnie survives in Gibson City. Also surviving are a son Mitch (BK) Benningfield of Gibson City and a grandson Logan Benningfield. Three brothers- Bob (Connie) Benningfield of Gibson City, Jerry (Martha) Benningfield of Fulton, MO, John (Terri) Benningfield of Gibson City and two sisters Jane (John) Cummins of Gibson City and twin sister Georgia (Jerry) Lynch of Gibson City and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, a son -Todd and a grandson Dylan.

George was an Iron worker for Local 380 for many years. When he moved to Florida he was a probation officer for the State of Florida. He enjoyed fishing, camping, hanging out with friends and working in his yard. But he especially enjoyed supporting his grandsons athletic and school activities.
