Margaret "Peggy" Rulison

Margaret Jane Rulison, (Peggy), 100, of Roberts, Illinois passed peacefully into the Presence of Jesus Christ her Savior on Saturday, September 9, 2023.

Peggy was born in Franklin, Indiana on February 9, 1923, the daughter of Wesley Deputy Class and Millicent (McDonald) Class.

She married Clyde A. Rulison in 1947.  They were married 42 years until Clyde’s death in 1989.  Together they had 4 children, 4 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.

She is survived by her four children: Virginia Rulison-Weber, Robert Rulison, John Rulison, Lucinda (Douglas) Lee, and grandchildren Heather, Heidi, Alyssa and Gregory, and four great grandchildren.  She is also survived by her brother, Joseph F. Class.

She was preceded in death by her husband, her father and mother, and her sister Betty Jean (Class) Hougland.

Peggy attended Franklin, IN schools through her sophomore year, then the family moved to Mooresville, IN where she graduated HS in 1941.  As a young teen, Peggy was hospitalized with near-death pneumonia and was in an “iron lung”.  Her parents were told there was nothing more to do.  Peggy recounted that she had no fear, and was at peace to go to Heaven.  However, the doctors offered one last option…. A new, non-approved drug… Sulfa!   God had other plans for Peggy.

Turning down an art scholarship to Herron Art Institute, Peggy chose instead to enter Indiana University School of Nursing, where she graduated in 1946.   After HS, she also worked for the War Effort at RCA.

Peggy met naval officer Dr. C.A. Rulison in Indianapolis where they worked together. After their wedding they moved to Roberts, Illinois, Clyde’s home state.  They owned a Family Practice clinic which provided medical care to a large rural population. They faithfully served a wide radius and numerous surrounding communities until Doc’s death in 1989.

Through the years they also cared for several extended family members in their home and even sheltered stranded strangers in winter storms.  On many occasions, injured animals both wild and domestic were also the recipients of Doc & Peggy’s medical care!

Throughout her life, Peggy focused on serving others, both professionally and personally.  She loved her family, and was a wonderful wife & mother.  And she loved Children!  She served as Superintendent of Sunday School, wrote Christmas pageants, and led Children’s Choir (and Adult’s) at church.  The weekly Children’s choir practice acted as an after-school “Kids Club” where kids not only practiced songs for Sunday, but also learned Scripture, did crafts, had seasonal parties and were taken to movies such as Sound of Music, The Bible and The Greatest Story Ever Told.

Peggy loved her Country and was active in politics both locally and regionally.  She attended Political Conventions as an alternate delegate.  She also served on the Ford County Board for several years.  She was a member of Living Word Church, Roberts, IL, and of the American Legion Auxiliary.

Surely, The Good Shepherd’s Goodness & Mercy HAVE followed Peggy all the days of her life, and she now dwells in the House of the Lord forever!

Visitation will be Thursday, September 14, 2023, 5pm to 7pm at Living Word Church, 110 East State Route 54, Roberts, IL.

Graveside Service will be Friday, September 15, 2023, at 11:00a.m. EST at Washington Park East Cemetery, 10722 E. Washington St., Indianapolis, IN 46229.
