Lt. Patrick Conrad Duffy, 67, of Roberts Peacefully passed away from natural causes Friday June 16, 2023 at his home in Roberts. Visitation will be held 9:30am-11:00am Thursday June 22, 2023 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church 534 North Wood Street in Gibson City. A mass of Christian Burial to follow at 11:00 am with Father Dong Van Bui and Deacon Paul Sarantakos officiating. Interment will follow at Melvin Cemetery, Melvin, IL. Memorial Contributions may be made to Roberts-Melvin Fire Protection District or Camp New Hope 1364N 100E Road, Neoga, IL 62447.

 

Pat was born January 4, 1956 in Gibson City. A son of Thomas E. and Mardell Mary (Wagner) Duffy. He was baptized and confirmed into the Holy Roman Catholic Faith at St. George Catholic Church in Melvin.

 

He is survived by two sisters Mary (Robert) Gehring of Waupaca, WI and Barbara Duffy of Chicago and one brother Thomas Duffy of Melvin. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Michael Anthony Duffy, grandparents James and Maude Karney Duffy and Gustave Conrad Wagner and Agnes Monahan Wagner.

 

Pat was a 1974 graduate of Melvin Sibley High School and a 1978 graduate of Western Illinois University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Applied Sciences with emphasis in Criminal Justice. He then graduated from the Police Training Institute at the University of Illinois. In 1979 Pat began his law enforcement career with the Ford County Sheriff's Department under Sherriff Harold Hustedt. At the time of his fathers' retirement from Ford County on March 27, 1993, Pat was promoted to field supervisor/investigator. Pat received the 1998 Ford County Deputy Sherriff of the Year award primarily for his investigation with the Illinois State Police in a publicized murder case in Gibson City and a home invasion and attack in Sibley plus his work as a firearms instructor, field training officer and investigator.

 

Pat's interests were collecting firearms, munitions, target shooting and anything related to Law Enforcement. Pat loved his 44 years at Ford County and serving the people of Ford County. All who closely knew Pat also were aware he was a man of very few words and always seemed to his analytical mind processing so when he did speak everyone listened. He was also a member of the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge #017 of Champaign and Our Lady of Lourdes Knights of Columbus.

 

Pat will be missed by family and friends. Rest in Peace.
