Leroy Sallee

Leroy Sallee, 93, of Gibson City passed away at 6:20 am Monday July 17, 2023 at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana. Visitation will be held 10:00am-12:00pm Wednesday July 26, 2023 at Rosenbaum Funeral Home in Gibson City. Funeral services will begin at 12:00 noon with Kenny Chumbley officiating. Burial will follow at Drummer Township Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Church of Christ or to the Gibson City Pentecostal Church Food Pantry.

Leroy was born June 9, 1930 in Campbellsville, Kentucky. A son of Howett and Sarah Elizabeth Cambell Sallee. He married Betty Ann Schantz on July 14, 1951 in Gibson City.

He is survived by his wife of seventy-two years Betty Sallee of Gibson City. Three daughters- Ann Sallee of Gibson City, Pat (Randy) Mattingly of Gibson City and Debbie (Larry) Spellmeyer of Gibson City. Seven grandchildren Eric Trowbridge of Pontiac, Darin (Marie) Schoolcraft of Crest Hill, Jennifer Trowbridge of Pontiac, Ryan Schoolcraft of Danville, Rebecca Spellmeyer of Gibson City, Rana Spellmeyer of Gibson City and Ray Mattingly of Paxton. Eight great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. He was preceded in death by four sisters and four brothers.

Leroy worked for Central Soya for thirty-five years and retired in 1984. He enjoyed woodworking and had a knack for making canes, he also enjoyed helping his son-in-law at his shop. Leroy often relaxed by going fishing or mowing his lawn. Often times you could find Leroy at the coffee shop solving world problems with his friends. He will be missed by all that knew and loved him.
