Helen Irene Mott, 87, of Gibson City peacefully passed away at Accolade Health Care of Paxton at 8:40 pm Monday October 24, 2022 on her oldest son Michael's birthday. Visitation will be held 10:00-11:00 am Monday October 31, 2022 at the Gibson City Bible Church with funeral services to begin at 11:00 am with Pastor Paul Thomason officiating. Burial will be in Drummer Township Cemetery. Memorial contributions can be made to Shepherd's Closet or to The Gibson City Food Pantry.
Helen was born June 14, 1935 in Somerset, Kentucky a daughter of Sherman David and Audie K. (Clifton) Schoolcraft.
She is survived by her four children Michael A. (Karen) Mott of Gibson City, Vickie R. (Mike) Lorenzen of Gibson City, Mark A. (Lori) Mott of Heyworth and Martin A. (Sherri) Mott of Champaign. Five grandchildren Matthew (Chandra) Lorenzen, Jessica (Matt) Robinson, Jacob (Christina) Mott, Ryan Mott and Andrew Mott; five great grandchildren Harley and Hayden Tjarks, Ryker and Teagyn Robinson and Ramona Mott. Also, a sister Dorothy June Whitehurst of Tarboro, North Carolina. She was preceded in death by four brothers and a sister.
Through the years Helen worked at Ropps in Gibson City, Funks Grove Seed Company in Bloomington and also at Stokely's Van Camp in Gibson City. She was an active member of the Gibson City Bible Church and a faithful follower of the St. Louis Cardinals. She thoroughly enjoyed attending the Shriners Kids Day at the North Park each summer to visit with friends and enjoy the food, she never passed up an adventure to find the best bargains. Helen was a huge Vince Gill fan and she showed that loyalty with personalized license plates. She was proud of her Irish Heritage and will be missed by her family and many friends.
