Donna Sherfey

September 4, 1928 — October 11, 2020

Donna Natalie Mies Sherfey, 92 of Roberts, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family at her home on the beautiful autumn afternoon of October 11, 2020.
Donna was born at home on the family farm west of Roberts in September 1928, a daughter of Joseph and Gertrude Mies, joining two sisters and one brother. Donna lived most of her life within two miles of her birthplace, although her travels took her on visits throughout the United States, Europe, and the Caribbean.
After graduating from Roberts High School in 1946, she began her career at State Farm in Bloomington, enrolled in further studies in Omaha, Nebraska, where she was recruited to work for the FBI in Washington, D.C. during J. Edgar Hoover's administration, before returning to Roberts to work at Hicksgas. She wrapped up her career at Ag Services in Sibley and Melvin.
Donna married Bill Sherfey in September 1951. The couple had two children: Bill (Bob Baumann) Sherfey of St. Paul, MN, and Marcy (Jerry Lierow) Sherfey of Sherwood, OR, and two grandchildren, Kate and Maxfield. She was preceded in death by her brother, two sisters, and a son-in law.
She was a life-long member of the Roberts United Methodist Church, where she served as organist for more than 60 years. She also was an active member and avid volunteer for many organizations, including The Roberts Women's Club, Daughters of the American Revolution, Ford County Historical Society, Cunningham Children's Home and the Legion Auxiliary.
Through her mid-80's, Donna loved riding her bike out to the country to check on the crops and enjoy the breathtaking Central Illinois scenery and sunsets. Donna brought a bit of sunshine in her smile and cheerful personality to everyone she met and she will be sorely missed.
Donations in her memory may be given to Cunningham Children's Home in Urbana: https://www.cunninghamhome.org/ways-give or to a charity of your choice.
We are sorry that because of COVID 19 we are only able to have a private family service, but want you to know how deeply grateful we are for the outpouring of care and love shown to our parents over the years and now through your cards, calls and remembrances of Donna's beautiful life.
