Dona Joyce McDermed, 80, of Gibson City peacefully passed away at 1:15 pm Saturday April 16, 2022 at the Heritage Health Nursing Home in Gibson City. A Celebration of Life service will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to Transitions Hospice or to Heritage Health Nursing Home.
Joyce was born August 6, 1941 in Chicago, a daughter of Isaiah Frank and Florence E. Broche Burton. She married Joseph G. McDermed on January 23, 1958 in Alcorn, Mississippi. He passed away August 2012.
She is survived by a brother Bob Eaton of Gibson City and a sister Linda Carlton of Gibson City and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two sons Joseph and Ricky and four siblings Earl Dean, A. Frank Burton, Gerald Eaton and Peggy Garard.
Joyce enjoyed traveling with her husband or exploring new places alone. She enjoyed being outdoors especially in the summer. She enjoyed reading, knitting and listening to WLS radio. She was a very talented photographer. Joyce was happiest when she visited her siblings and was able to spoil her nieces and nephews.
