Charles Roth

Charles W. Roth, 92,of Bloomington, Illinois passed away at Carle BroMenn Medical Center Hospital in Normal, Illinois on November 10, 2023, after a short illness. Charles was born October 5, 1931, the son of Emma and Joseph Roth.
After serving four years in the US Navy, he returned to his hometown, Melvin, Illinois. He engaged in farming until he decided to attend Illinois State University majoring in education.

Upon graduation, he served as a grade school teacher in Loda and Melvin, Illinois. He then became a principal and then a superintendent. His places of employment as superintendent include: Melvin-Sibley CUSD, Northwestern School District, Pontiac Grade School, and Petersburg Porta Schools.

He married Margaret Brinkman Boshell Roth in 1958 in Melvin. She preceded him in death. He is survived by two step daughters: Mary Jo Tylman of Bloomington and Beverly (Robert) Zebarth of Melvin, two grandchildren: Kelsey (Michael) Sandsmark and Kevin (Melissa) Zebarth, and four great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, a sister Myrtle Hasenauer, and two brothers, Ronald Roth and Gerald Roth.

Mr. Roth was a member of St. Peters Free Lutheran Church in Melvin, VFW, American Legion, Moose Lodge, Elks club, and various golf clubs throughout the years.

He loved watching his grandchildren and great grandchildren thrive. He especially enjoyed the winters he and his wife lived in Arizona and the many friends they made while there. He was an avid golfer and a reader of especially history books.

Visitation for Mr. Roth will be held 10:00-11:00 am Saturday November 25, 2023 at St. Peter’s Free Lutheran Church in Melvin, Illinois. Funeral service will follow at 11:00 am with Pastor Joe Frech officiating. A private burial service will be held at a later date. Memorials may be made to St. Peter’s Free Lutheran Church.
