Carla Jean Hawthorne, 57, peacefully passed away Tuesday June 2, 2020 at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana. A Celebration of Carla's Life will be held at 1:00 pm Saturday June 12, 2021 at Rosenbaum Funeral Home in Gibson City with Pastor Gary Fairchild officiating. On November 10, 1962 in Champaign, Lincoln and Carol Malone Brooks welcomed Carla into this world. Carla married her best friend, Sidney Hawthorne, on December 6, 1980 in Gibson City. They enjoyed thirty-nine wonderful years together building a family and home on their farm. Carla loved helping people, teaching and playing with children, and seeing animals enjoy their lives. She was a lifelong volunteer and caretaker and she always sought to help people who needed it. Carla will be remembered by many in her family as Mimi, a title given to her by Kennedy, her grandniece. Our Mimi always took care of us and she will be dearly missed.

Sidney survives in Foosland following Carla's departure. Carla's son, Joshua, survives with Hayley Hawthorne and Carla's two precious grandsons, Cole and Gavin, who brought such joy to her life, in Newark, CA. Her stepson, Michael Hawthorne, survives in Florida. Carla's siblings-in-law, Steven and Susan Hawthorne and Art and Suzanne Pitz survive and have lent the great comfort of family during this time. Her many (grand) nieces and (grand) nephews including Corbin, Kennedy, Marci, Dalton, Amanda, Brandon, Levi, Nikolai, Ben, Addison, Margaret, Charlie, Sammy, Sophia, Kenny, Candice, Olivia, Liam, Brennly, Don, April, Regan, Seth, and McKenna all survive Carla's passing. Carla is survived by her aunts Shirley Jackson in Gibson City and Marion Iserman in Arizona. Lincoln and Gloria, her father and stepmother, survive in Paris, TX. Carol, her mother, and Cindy Fisher, her sister, were rejoined with Carla upon her passing.
