Bernard Erwin

Gibson City-

Bernard O. "Bernie" Erwin, 85, of Gibson City formerly of Paxton died at 8:45 am Friday March 8, 2019 at his home in Gibson City. A celebration of Bernie's life will be held at 1:30 pm Friday March 29, 2019 at Rosenbaum Funeral Home in Gibson City, The Rev. Dan Hill officiating. Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the services. Burial will be in Lyman Township Cemetery.
Bernard was born December 24, 1933 in Will County, a son of Robert and Jessie (Fritchley) Erwin. He married JoAnn Anderson on October 19, 2001 in Paxton. She survives. Also surviving are two daughters Kim (Chano) Chacon of Paxton and Candice (Michael) Short of Paxton. Six step children- Tony Knecht of Veedersburg, IN; Curtis (Beth) Knecht of Hoopeston, Carla (Clark) Grupe of Veedersburg, IN, Andrew (Linda) Knecht of Covington, IN, Chad (Tracy) Knecht of Indianapolis and Kenneth Anderson of Veedersburg, IN.
Twelve grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. A sister- Pauline Pelton of Wilmington and a brother- Marion (Joan) Erwin of Coal City.
He was preceded in death by one brother - Clifford "Bud" Erwin.
Bernie was a graduate of Roberts-Thawville High School. He was a heavy equipment operator and a longtime member of the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 841. He served on the Ford County Board for many years. Bernie attended the First Baptist Church in Gibson City. He was an avid Chicago Cubs fan and Illini fan, and enjoyed fishing and his garden.
