Delores A. “Dort” Rutledge, 83, of Gibson City peacefully passed away at 12:20 pm Thursday April 7, 2022 at the Heritage Health Nursing Home in Gibson City with her loving and devoted family at her side. A private family graveside service was held at Drummer Township Cemetery. Memorial contributions can be made to Transitions Hospice or to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
Delores was born November 6, 1938 in Gibson City. A daughter of Henry and Fern Berkler May. She married Charles M. “Chuck” Rutledge on October 28, 1991 in Gibson City. He passed away November 18, 1998. She is survived by her three sons Mike (Joan) McPherson of Layfette, Indiana; Jeff (Brenda) McPherson of Morris and Rich (Monica) Nolte of Gibson City. Ten grandchildren and seven great grandchildren and a brother Ed May of LaSalle. She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother and one sister.
Dort was a member of the United Methodist Church and The American Legion Auxiliary. She loved teddy bears and had a vast assortment. She enjoyed watching the birds that gathered outside her window but she especially enjoyed the squirrel that came to visit as well, she called him Peanuts.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to the nurses and aides at Heritage Health and to Transitions Hospice for taking care of Dort and sharing their love and friendship with her. She will be missed by all that knew and loved her.
